HOW IT WORKS
The environment in a Toastmasters club is friendly and supportive. Everyone at a Toastmasters meeting feels welcome and valued - from complete beginners to advanced speakers. In a club meeting, you practice giving prepared speeches as well as brief impromptu presentations, known as Table Topics. There is no rush and no pressure: The Toastmasters program allows you to progress at your own pace.
Newry Speakers believes that Constructive evaluation is central to the improvement of our member's Public Speaking abilities. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths as well as suggest improvements. Receiving - and giving - such feedback is a great learning experience. Encouragement and improvement go hand-in-hand.
Toastmasters offers members an online educational platform through the toastmasters.org website. The platform entitled Pathways allows our members to see what roles they will likely be performing, what skills they will gain, and some useful tips on how to perform a given project at one of our club meetings. The Educational programme on offer is also catered for each individuals' own aspirations. Going beyond the fear of public speaking, it also has paths that include developing presentational skills, giving humorous speeches, motivating people, improving your coaching or becoming more persuasive etc. There are 11 paths in total from which to choose (for more info on each path click on each path logo) and if you are not sure where to start there is a questionnaire that can help you. (Please be aware you must be a paid up member and be logged into toastmasters website beforehand)
